Pendleton, Oregon. Walking to the reception, Lauren, Tyson, and I stopped outside Hamley’s Saloon, Steakhouse, and Outfitters. I photographed Tyson first, then showed Lauren where I wanted her to stand. I stepped back, looked through the viewfinder, and was overwhelmed. An hour after her wedding ceremony, an aura of grace, charm, and quiet enthusiasm surrounded Lauren like the small-town evening sunlight bouncing off the empty sidewalks around her. Without warning, I was overwhelmed. I lowered my camera and stood silent. Realizing after a moment that she must be a little confused, I walked a few paces toward her and said, “you look…very beautiful.” “Thank you,” she said graciously, having heard it a hundred times that day.
