Kennewick, Washington at the Kennewick First United Methodist Church and Anthony’s. As I was editing these pics, I realized that I shot them a little differently than how I’d been shooting lately. It’s a subtle difference, surely, but the mood they suggest is just a hint different. Trust me, I know quite a bit about mood. In high school I used to sit in the halls sketching teachers and students on my giant sketchpad. People used to walk by, open their eyes kind of wide, and say in a fake-impressed tone, “Moody++.” Do the plus signs help you hear the falsetto of their voices?

Forget about mood though. The important thing is difference. Three things I’m sure of: 1. If I ever stop noticing the differences from one wedding or person to another, that’s the last year I’ll be photographing; 2. At my age (still young but getting old), doing something different is valuable; 3. At my age and everything older, if you manage to do something different you can be damn sure that you’re not responsible for it. You’re too old for change. Someone else pushed you there and you owe them a thanks, a card, or something greater—the same as if they’d sent you a gift. I know that I, for one, will be thanking Trista and Kevin with a 5% off coupon for all children’s and grandchildren’s future space-weddings. I would offer a bigger discount, but I figure, hey, if they’re having their weddings in space, they can afford it.
